WEEKLY SCHEDULE
MONDAY
– FIELD TRIPS
This
is a group activity that travels to interesting sights throughout
Southern Arizona. The trips include destinations such as Kitt Peak,
Biosphere II, Copper Mine Tours, Madera Canyon, Ghost Town
explorations and State Parks. These activities require some walking
and occasional off trail travel such as the ghost town exploration
and gem and mineral collecting.
TUESDAY
AND THURSDAY – SPORTS DAY
Sports
day includes participating in a wide variety of traditional
(basketball, baseball, soccer, football golf, tennis etc...) and non
– traditional (horseshoes, Frisbee, croquet, dodge ball,
kickball etc...) sports activities. Participants in this active group
are taught basic skills for each sport as well as teamwork and
cooperation in achieving team goals. Individual skills in each sport
are also practiced. There may be an occasional fee of $5.00 if the
group is practicing golf at the driving range or if the group is
bowling.
WEDNESDAY
– HIKING/FISHING
This
activity includes hiking on designated National Forest Service hiking
trails throughout Southern Arizona. We hike some of the most
beautiful trails in the entire country. The fishing activity uses
lakes that are located south of Tucson such as Patagonia Lake, Pena
Blanca Lake or Arivaca Lake. The activity requires the participant to
walk a number of miles on trails that are up hill, rocky and uneven.
The hiking group typically walks about six miles per hike. The
fishing is off shore and we walk along the lake shore in search of
good fishing sites. Backpacks are very useful and can be supplied if
the participant does not have one of their own.
FRIDAY
– ENTOMOLOGY/ROCK HOUNDING/BOTONY
Exploration
of the world of insects and plants as well as searching for precious
and non-precious rocks and minerals is the objective of this group.
We travel to unique settings throughout Southern Arizona. The
participants of this group will be required to travel on trails that
are rocky, uneven and up hill. At times, the group will be searching
for gems and minerals next to or in the middle of streams and creeks
with running water.
